Cross Country is coming – College Classic and AV XCR Round 1 Jells Park

Mel Douglass

After a break from the summer Track and Field season, get ready for a jam packed Cross Country season. Our first race, an old favourite, College Classic will be held on Saturday 4th May with the 6km event starting at 2pm.

At the conclusion of the 6km event will be the 1km event, 3km event and 500m untimed dash.

It is expected that attendance will be rather high for our first event, so please arrive early to register for your event/s. It will also help greatly if you could pay your registration fees online for new and existing members. New members will also need to purchase a timing chip (leg tag) per runner. See the link and press the REGISTER NOW button.

A range of uniform options are available for purchase also, members are encouraged to wear their club uniform at all runs.

Our runs conclude with the famous UNI afternoon tea which has been running for many decades so please bring a plate of afternoon tea to share. Andrea’s homemade scones have lifted the profile of the after tea immensely and Gavin has been using his good old chocolate cake recipe for decades! Tea, coffee and milk are provided by the club but if you could bring a thermo of hot water, that would be great.

For Athletics Victoria athletes, in addition to your club membership, registrations for Aths Vic are now due. I am sure you would have already received a few reminders from Aths Vic already. Newbies to AV running, registrations can be made via

Round 1 of AV XCR is at Jells Park XC Relays. Please contact UNI’s Vice President and AV Captain Nigel Preston if you are planning on attending this event so suitable arrangements for transport / mini buses can be considered. A survey for AV runners is available and if you haven’t yet completed it, can you please do so. Link is here

On a final note for newbies to the club and Facebook page, there are many free training groups that run throughout the week and cater for a range of abilities if you are looking for some company on your runs. Just ask and I can point you in the right direction.

Enough of me, happy holidays and happy training to all. See you on the 4th May.
