Spring is here: Summer Season

David Lonsdale

Spring is well and truly here and summer track season gets underway with Round 1 of AV shield Saturday week October 6th.

Time for the annual summer season plug and analysis.

There are 12 AV Shield Saturday comp’s over summer and a further 6 or 7 non-AV days put on by Aths Bendigo. Also you can compete in the State Titles weekend at Lakeside and the Country Titles weekend this year held at Bendigo.

Hence if you compete every possible week you get around 20 event days for your rego.

Relevant to BUAC each weekend there will either be a 1500 metre or a 3000m (sometimes 5000m option). Additionally there is sometimes a steeplechase and of course the usual array of 100m, 200m, 400 & 800m for those who want to work on their speed, and long jump, high jump, javelin etc for the exceptionally keen like Ross and Jorja V.

Remember also the 1500m is run in pace-graded heats. Most weeks there are three heats.

So what does it cost? This is the complex bit. Aths Bendigo info sheet is here

Firstly, new athletes are entitled to 2 ‘come and try’ days for $10 with online entry or $15 on the day. Either AV shield day or non-shield doesn’t matter. After that it is $25 per day.

2018 deal for kids

New this year is a dual rego deal with Little Aths. Little Athletes registered kids aged between 11 and 14 (as at 31/12/18) are eligible for an AV and LAV Dual membership. Cost is $50 and gives full Aths Vic rego. (note Little Aths rego is $130).

This means you can do all 18 odd senior aths days at Bendigo for nothing (providing you nominate on-line each week). Great value. BUAC will have a bit of a gang at the track this way over summer.

Regular costs

Normal AV junior rego costs are $130 to be a member and $120 for summer track (known as the track & field package).
Adult rego is $150 to be a member and $145 for summer track.

If you have AV rego but not the summer track package it is $20 to compete at an AV shield day and $10 on a non-shield day, with online rego. (Add an extra $5 to register on the day).

If you have AV rego and the summer track package it is free each Saturday, with online rego. ($5 to register on the day).

Parker Electrical Tuesday night summer series
In addition to Saturdays, Aths Bendigo puts on a timed event every Tuesday evening over summer at 7pm. Either a 3k or 5k, alternating weeks. Cost is minimal. 2017 was $2 for AV registered (regardless of summer track package or not, $5 for non-AV. This starts next Tuesday with a 3km.
