This week is the last BUAC club run for aggregate points for 2018 on a new course the “Rocky Rises”. After this week there are still 2 more club events – the Half Marathon Festival in a fortnight and the Mystery Run the week after.
The very easy to find start/finish location is at the end of Rocky Rises Road which is a bitumen road heading south off Olympic Parade Maiden Gully (about 500m toward Kangaroo Flat from the Calder Highway intersection.
Travel about 1.5km along Rocky Rises Road to get to the start/finish line.
Distances are 10km, 3km & 1km. Don’t be put off by the name it is good out & back course run on an easily driveable track albeit with a mild hill in the middle.. Weather is going to be awesome. 10k another nice tune-up for the spring running season. You can check out the course maps Darren Rowe has put on FB.
All the usual start times etc apply. 2pm for the Long Course, about 3pm for the 1km and shortly after for the 3km. BYO leg tag, arvo tea, thermos.
Thanks to course markers Chris & Janelle Giffin.
Confirming the toilet is booked and will definitely be there this week.
After some early confusion with the President wondering why no-one was setting up at the Landry Lope start-line and where we actually were, wet and wild conditions set in toward the end of the Long Course with some muddy tumbles in the 1k held shortly after.
Thanks to Nigel Preston & sons for driving out and marshalling at the 6km mark turnoff and providing an extra highlight bringing the little Hyundai back along the greasy, rocky 4wd trail in the rain.
